Dee River Project
The quality of the water collected should clearly show the
problem facing Mount Morgan. You have taken a snapshot of the
problem on a single day.
Can the river be rehabilitated?
To answer this problem extended study needs to be carried
out. The quality of the water and the state of the soils should
be studied over an extended period and at many more sites.
Does the water quality improve after rains bring fresh water
into the river? Does the quality decrease?
a) Stay in Mount Morgan for several days. Take readings at
regular intervals across each day. Develop a picture of how
temperature and climate changes the water quality.
Or
b) Return at the same time each week and monitor how the conditions
vary over an extended period.
If either of these activities is being considered please contact:
Kelly Harrington, Project Officer at Wowan Dululu Landcare Group,
PO Box 7, Mount Morgan QLD 4714. She will be able to suggest
a range of suitable sites and give up-to-date information on
the projects being undertaken to research the condition of the
Dee River and plans to rehabilitate the mine site.
