Focus Questions

  1. There have been many dams built at Mount Morgan. Why was the water supply so important?
  2. The Mine was initially mostly underground. They then started open cut mining. Not all of the removed material was gold ore, what happened to the rest?
  3. How big a pile do you think the gold taken from Mount Morgan would make?
  4. The mine used railway lines. What advantage did this give the miners?
  5. The Open Cut mine is now mainly filled with water. What would you expect the quality of this water to be?
  6. The swinging bridge is a famous landmark below the mine. Look at the stream below. Why are the rocks that colour?
  7. Is the water clear?
  8. What do you notice about the vegetation around the river?
  9. What insect and fish life would you expect to find?
  10. When it rains heavily what would you expect to happen?

If you can’t answer these questions now, look closely when you visit these sites on your visit to Mount Morgan.
