St Mary's Church of England

Funds for St Mary's Church of England were donated in 1889 by James Wesley Hall, first Manager of Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company Ltd (1882 -1891), and Mount Morgan's first mayor (1890).

At the first confirmation service in 1889, the Reverend G.L. Wallace presented forty-seven candidates to Bishop Weber of Brisbane. This was before a separate Rockhampton Diocese was formed in 1892.

The Church was consecrated on 5 October 1899 by Bishop Nathaniel Dawes, first bishop of Rockhampton.

St Mary's was Mount Morgan's second Church of England. The small timber bell-tower is from the first building, a wood and iron structure which stood on the site of the present Hall.
