Masonic Temple

This 1903 Masonic Temple demonstrates the growth and prominence of Mount Morgan in the early twentieth century and the early spread of Freemasonry through Queensland.

Land in Gordon Street was secured in 1901 and a competition was held for a Temple design. On 10 August 1901 the design of Eaton and Bates of Rockhampton was selected.

The Temple was erected for 1500 pounds by Newman Brothers of Rockhampton under supervision of T.G. Cornes, using red bricks made in Mount Morgan.
