Arthur Timms Lookout

From the Arthur Timms lookout you get a spectacular view of the town and the mine that was once a mountain.

Looking north over the top of town, you see the Burnett Highway cross the Dee River and head off for Rockhampton.

Turn westward until you encounter the Big Stack. Completed in 1905, it stands 76 metres tall and is said to contain three-quarters of a million bricks.

To the left of the Big Stack is the lake which is the site of what was the open-cut mine. Instead of that lake, try to picture the mountain of gold that once stood there - Ironstone Mountain, the original Mount Morgan.
