No. 7 dam

The Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company Limited built seven dams on the Dee River. This one, the last and largest, officially known as the No. 7 Dam, is about a mile upstream from the mine and is known locally as the Big Dam.

It was dug during the drought and punishing water shortages of 1902 but it did not fill until May 1904, when the drought ended.

Once filled, it immediately became a popular recreation spot for the town.
